Serene Retreat

Location: Vayana, Gujarat
Area: 21,500 sq.ft.
Architect: Rockpile
The landscape is conceived as a serene retreat where planting becomes the primary tool for shaping space, atmosphere, and experience. Rather than relying on rigid boundaries, different zones are defined through layered vegetation that creates subtle transitions between active, contemplative, and intimate areas of the garden. This approach allows the landscape to feel fluid and immersive, where movement through the space is guided by the character of planting rather than by constructed edges. A carefully selected palette of flowering plants, grasses, shrubs, and ornamental trees introduces variation in height, texture, and seasonal color. Low meadow-like ground layers create softness and movement, while mid-height shrubs provide gentle enclosure and guide pathways through the garden. Taller canopy trees anchor key nodes within the landscape, offering shade and acting as visual markers that help orient movement across the site.

These variations create a sequence of landscape rooms—each with its own character—yet all connected through a cohesive ecological and sensory experience that promotes calm, exploration, and a deep connection with nature.
