Sri Siddhivinayak Devasthan — landscape architecture project in Mahemdavad

Location: Mahemdavad

Area: 70,000 sq.ft.

Shree Siddhivinayak Devasthan is a unique temple that stands out for its impressive size and structure that was confirmed by Asia Book of Records and India Book of Records on June 4,2023. It is the largest temple in Asia that features the face of Lord Ganesha. The temple hence has a lot of footfall every day, which brings in the requirement of better spaces to experience as a journey to the divine and also create an impression for the pilgrims visiting. The project caters to curating spaces that can act as focal points and pause points while on the way leading to the temple. Minimal inferences like shadow patterns, footfall, traffic congestion, vehicular and pedestrian crossovers, undefined entry exit island and some critical junctions were carried forward as design strategies.

The primary design approach focuses on analyzing movement patterns of VIPs, general visitors, and e-buggies to identify and resolve points of congestion. Circulation is restructured to create clear, segregated pathways, ensuring smooth and efficient flow. This functional clarity guides the landscape design, where aesthetics complement performance, resulting in a seamless, organized, and comfortable experience for all users. — Sri Siddhivinayak Devasthan project detail, Sculpting Grounds

Design iterations shape the journey from entrance to temple as a long, immersive walk through layers of nature. Sculptures and installations punctuate the path, while shaded canopies offer comfort along the way. The experience unfolds as a serene, engaging procession, allowing devotees to transition gradually from arrival into a moment of reflection and spiritual connection. — Sri Siddhivinayak Devasthan project detail, Sculpting Grounds
